The search for simplicity

Whether it's finding the right motive to photograph or making music, I find the search for simplicity very fascinating.

When composing, some can hear the music in their head, knowing what they want to express precisely. I would love to feel that way, but besides some rare experiences, typically, that's not how it works for me.

It's more like having a map where I have to take almost every possible route before I can settle on the best one, the one variant that has the least amount of excess notes, the simplest one.

It's fascinating how you can endlessly optimize, but on the other hand, you can't spend all your time on ONE piece.

At some point, I have to finish; I have to stop the process and decide that this is it. It's often a difficult decision, but it helps to know that there's always room for another melody, you can always make another😅
